CORTONA, ITALY: SPRING 2019:

Cortona

I'm teaching two painting courses:

Beginning Painting and Intermediate/Advanced Painting.

ARST 2100 Beginning Painting:

For this class, you don't need any experience at all. And how could you be in Italy and not learn to paint! This is a great gen ed opportunity for any academic discipline, and especially for Art History majors who might want to see first hand what it's all about. We'll learn all the basics from the beginning--and you'll be surprised at what you will be able to do by the end!

ARST 2110 Intermediate/Advanced Painting

We will focus on finding and developing each artist's voice through open individualized projects. We will look to formal structures and creative processes, as well as the ongoing conversation in contemporary painting to help you form a process for building an authentic body of work. There will be group critiques as well as continued one-on-one concrete guidance in the studio.

ARST 3140 Painting Studio

This is for any intermediate to advanced level student who is working independently. Ongoing feedback in the studio, plus group critique.

*Graduate level also available.

The Cortona painting studio is in a beautiful airy chapel adjacent to the living quarters--an old convent at the top of this most beautiful Tuscan hilltown, built by Etruscans and then settled later by Romans. We will have history all around us, paintings in a museum a short walk down the hill, and Saturday fieldtrips to some of the most famous works in the world. There is no more inspiring place to be a painter!
